DisTanz 3.0 

"In the time of total isolation, we lead only a shadow existence - DisTanz"

DisTanz (2020), nominated for the Faust Prize 2020/21, was a site-specific dance project about and with "social distancing." Using a 1.5-metre-long stick, Yui Kawaguchi and Ruben Reniers examined the effects of the distancing rules during the COVID crisis on social encounters and our physical perception.

This theme, born out of the crisis, is reinterpreted in DisTanz 3.0: in an increasingly divided society, bodies meet - and at the same time move apart - within a space charged with tension.

"Stiff as a board," the dancers march through the space. The stick connects and separates them at the same time. In doing so, it constantly appears within the tension between support and surveillance, protection and demarcation. The finely differentiated dance language of Kawaguchi and Reniers embodies subtle manipulation, turbulent confrontation, and the urge for intimacy and touch.

It is about individual captivity within the crisis situation:
